Diary - This page contains some information that was relayed by phone from Stéphan on the road

Early 2007 - Stephan tells everyone his idea about the way to raise funds for the company's annual charity drive.

March 2007 - The communication goes out to the company and this web site is created to allow 'external' people to get involved.

April 20 - Stephan plans an Awareness Day in the company parking lot to remind people about his challenge

May 1st - Goal of $10,000 is reached and still growing

May 8th - Most states and provinces have $100 sponsors. To see list of sponsors click here

May 14th - Stéphan confirms that with the Company matching much of the donations that the total collected will exceed $20,000

Tuesday May 15th 1pm - Stéphan departs on the journey. Click here for a daily status of states checked off the list and their sponsors.

Thursday May 17th - The weather hasn't really cooperated but as of this morning at 9am, things are going much better. By 9pm, 24 of the 48 contiguous states have been reached. Now come the bigger states so this is not the half way point.

Friday May 18th - Although the weather his now cooperating - there has been a few mishaps and delays. The front tire has been losing air and got fixed. This has resulted in quiet delay that jeopardized the entire trip. After a lot of recalculation, Stéphan has decided to continue and since Mexico is a completely optional part of the 48 Plus, he will skip Mexico which will make up for the time lost.

Saturday May 19th - Things have finally turned around and are going very well today. A good night's rest in Kansas City.

Monday May 21st - Two things are slowing down the trip. Trying to avoid riding into storm cells during the day and trying to avoid running into deer at night. Other than that things are moving smoothly.

Tuesday May 22nd - A full seven days on the road. Snow and hail are a factor today so it's slow going around Denver. Was hoping to find a place to change oil and maybe get a new tire in Denver but will have to wait until Las Vegas on Wednesday

Wednesday May 23rd - Although Eric at RideNow Powersports in Las Vegas did his best to service the bike (Tires/Oil Change), Stéphan has recalculated his time and he feels that it is now impossible to reach Hyder Alaska in the required time (and have to drive back). Thanks Eric for the 'front of the line' service. Click on the logo to visit their website.

Also a special thanks goes out to John at  Weigl's Cycles in Greenville, Alabama who offered Stéphan many services during the flat tire incident. The guys at Weigl's are still tracking his progress since they have met  last Thursday. Their site (which seemed to be down yesterday) is http://weiglscycles.com. As of Wednesday 10:23am, the GPS unit seems to be malfunctioning. Stéphan is resting in Las Vegas while his bike is being service and overnight.

Thursday May 24th - 4:00am local time Leaving Las Vegas - Stéphan got a good night's rest in Vegas and will only attempt the 48 states since Alaska is way out of reach now. He will be returning from Washington state and should arrive in Montreal on Tuesday or Wednesday.

15:00 update - Stéphan's GPS tracker is still not working although he is now just North of Salt Lake City, Utah. His only three remaining states are Idaho, Oregon and Washington

22:00 update - The GPS mysteriously started working again in Northern Utah, Stephan is now in Oregon. Has the military blocked all GPS transmission in a 400 mile perimeter of area 54?

Thursday May 24th 9:00pm - Stéphan entered Washington state to complete the 48 state challenge. CONGRATULATIONS.

Friday May 25th - Now that the official trip is finished, Stéphan starts the trip back home. His target for today is Billings, Montana. Because of the long weekend, he has already reserved a room in Billings. His GPS has once again stopped tracking but click here to see a map of his projected trip.

Saturday May 26th - The weather is not so good so Stéphan stopped in Fargo North Dakota. If the weather gets better on Sunday, he will try to make it to Detroit.

Sunday May 27th - Stéphan's original destination (Windsor) is reached around midnight but the weather is cooperating and he doesn't feel tired so he shoots for Toronto.

Monday May 28 5:30am. He stays in Whitby to avoid Monday morning traffic. He will rest until checkout and be back in his own bed Monday night. Don't expect him at work on Tuesday.

Monday May 28 5:00pm - Stéphan is finally HOME!!!! He will be enjoying the day off tomorrow as he gathers energy to return to work. Once again CONGRATULATIONS on surviving the last 14 days on two wheels and not much sleep.
